Hello Friends,

I was sober in AA for 8 and a half years.

I picked up a drink in Feb 07.  I've been on a slippery slide since.

My last drink was last night.  I feel like I'm having an anxiety attack.  I feel guilt, shame and remorse AGAIN.

I'm gonna try to do this again One Day At A Time.

Can you pray for me.

We only have 1 meeting a week in the town I'm in.

My head is so messed up I can't even seem to navigate this site.  I'd love to find an online meeting right now.

Jenni

I'm glad you found us Jen!  Welcome to the Realm!

We will be happy to help you to stay sober -- as you know, it will get better, it just takes some time.

One day at a time!

Hi Jen. Welcome to Recovery Realm. We have meetings here every night and there are some during the day. Just check the meeting schedule on the main page. I look forward to seeing you in chat and at the meetings. Hang in there and just don't drink today.

It's a good day to be sober

Well it's day 2. My friend asked me if I was going out tonight. I said "no". So far so good but I already feel my resolve weakening. This is what ALWAYS happens, I start thinking "was it that bad".

My daughter asked me this morning about the huge spider I got out of the house the last night I drank. Truth is, I don't remember ANYTHING about it and don't remember getting home. That is the reality of my drinking.

Whenever you find your resolve weakening, think about that huge spider that you don't remember that you got out of the house the last night you drank.

You don't remember anything about it, don't remember getting home? You do not need to go through your life with this 'memory loss'. Think of how many things you might have told your daughter and you won't recall that you told her? That is what happened to me. I want to remember. I lost 10 years of my daughter's life by being drunk and I don't want to lose any more time or memory. As far as I know, I never said anything that hurt her, but it hurt her enough that I couldn't remember what I said, or what I did.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

From the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous:

"The fact is that most alcoholics, for reasons yet obscure, have lost the power of choice in drink.  Our so-called will power becomes practically non-existent.  We are unable, at certain times, to bring into our consciousness with sufficient force the memory of the suffering and humiliation of even a week or a month ago.  We are without defense against the first drink."

That's why alcoholism is cunning, baffling and powerful.

I can glamorize or romanticize that first drink all I want to, but I'm just going to wind up in the same place I was before -- pitiful, incomprehensible demoralization.
