Hello Everyone,
I am 38yrs old with a 13yr old daughter. She doesn't live with me (yet) but she does visit with me quite often. I have 2 dogs, of which I believe that my parents have dog napped them both and they won't be returning to me.
I am so grateful to my parents and my cousins who intervened on my addiction. I cannot express in words how much I love them for not giving up on me during my darkest of hours. I hope that my continued actions can speak for me.
I work at a 3/4 recovery residence here in the Metro Atlanta area. I am truly blessed to have the opportunity to give back each day what was freely given to me.
If I can get this thing called recovery, and believe me I DIDN'T WANT IT...... So Can YOU! Now, I don't want to live without it! The Blessings are truly AMAZING! |

I would like to thank EVERYONE for the warm welcome I've received here at Recovery Realm. I have never been to a site where I felt so at home immediately. I am really impressed.
I did a search on the internet for online AA meetings, because I have been out of rehab for 6 days (well 7 now) and I have yet to attend a face-to-face meeting, because of logistical problems (namely, no car). I haven't been able to connect to other sober people. I mean I have neighbors who have never had an addiction issue, who are sober, but I don't have anyone who knows what I am going through. I mean, I can only think of one of my friends, where addiction isn't an issue.
My friends aren't people I did my drug of choice with, but in retrospect, they all have issues of their own, be it narcotics, like me...or alcohol. They all have their own demons, so I need to find sober people to connect with.
At least here, I know I have a support system. Everyone is so friendly and helpful, and I know that my higher power led me to you.
Thanks so much,
Caren Mc |

Okay, I am new here.
Just to get it out there, I think I might have a problem with drinking. Maybe some of you can relate.
I don't "have" to have a drink every day, in fact I go day sometimes weeks without drinking. I am in the Navy, and if you read my bio, you'll see that I have a beautiful family. I am 29 years old, and looking for help.
My problems consist once I start drinking, I tend to lose track of things. This happens everytime I go out to sea, when I do not have the wife near. I am away from the family, the kids, and "fee single". I tend to go over board alot, and it have cost me some pain and anguish, of which the latest was me chewing up a young sailor (which I am considerably higher ranking) while I was drunk. I know I was wrong but now I stand to lose my career and my family over this stupid act.
Question...
1. Is anyone here military?
2. Do AA or other treatment programs recognize this?
Thanks for listening...I hope to have many more responses from you and look for the the conversations.
Again, tthank you |

So I am new here. I am just looking for some information. I don't even know if this is the right site for me.
I'm 23 years old. I had a pretty crappy childhood. I started smoking pot and drinking my senior year of high school. When I moved out after I graduated, the smoking and drinking increased. I moved in with people who smoked regularly. This continued until we got caught by the cops and fined. Then it kind of decreased because no one wanted to party at my house since the cops showed up. I would smoke and drink with my boyfriend at the time. For the next few years I would drink and smoke sporadically. Usually when I drink (especially if it's a party or if everyone is in the mood to get drunk) I drink till I am drunk. I haven't in awhile because I have been working my butt off and most of my friends now don't drink or do drugs.
That all being said, I've started to pop vicodin for fun. I tried it once before and didn't get any affect from it. The other day I decided to try it again, only taking more this time. Well I got high that time. Then two nights later I did it again. I didn't last night but now I am thinking of doing it tonight. Or waiting because I have a few days off coming up. I confided in my friend about it and she said to flush the rest of what I have left. I don't want to do that in case I want to use them again. She said that is not good if I am thinking that way.
I don't know what to do. I don't understand why I did it in the first place. I have a weird obsession with drugs. I thought that if I went to school for being a drug counselor these feelings would go away, or I would understand them better. They go away sometimes but when they come back it sucks. I want to rip off my skin for some relief. I don't know what to do... |

In answer to twiztd and Waiting. I don't think it would hurt either of you to get in touch with AA and go to a few meetings and see if that is what you need.
I know that for me, AA was the answer. It's a great program that gives us tools to live everyday, one day at a time, in sobriety.
We have meetings here everynight and some during the day so please check our schedule on the home page and join us for meetings or for some chat in the chatroom.

It's been my experience that if you think you have a problem, you probably do. Normal people don't have to think about controlling their drinking or how many pills they take. They don't have to control something because it's not out of control for them. They have the ability to say "No, thank you, I really don't want another drink", which I was utterly incapable of doing.
Please join us in chat or our online meetings and see if you find similarities between our stories and yours. If so, you might find that AA or NA is the right place for you. |

As I've said before, I've never tried to gin control of a car that was already in control.
I was trying to control my drinking for years, but that is not the biggest clue that I had a problem.
I see social drinkers, I have many friends who are, and when we go to events where drinking is a part of what is going on it is almost always a side line of what is happening, not the main event. Even New Years Eve was about the dancing, talking and general fun for them.
If I had been there during my drinking days the booze would have been my main focus.
To me, near the end of my drinking days, the drinks and the pills were more important to me than the other people or anything else.
It was not always like that.
There was a time where the booze was an essential part of the party, and over time it became what the party was all about and eventually what I was all about.
Addiction, alcoholism or what ever other face of the disease you may be facing is a progressive thing. It’s like an elevator but it only goes one direction, down.
You can get off at any floor you want.
Some of us lost almost everything, family, jobs, homes… some of us lose our lives or our freedom.
You do not need to lose it all. You do not need to lose another day of your life to this disease.
You do have a choice.
The elevator of alcoholism only goes down, the steps will take you to heights beyond your wildest dreams.
Well… at least it has for me.
