I am an alcoholic and today will be my first day of sobriety. I have to do this. I have to get my marriage and my family back on track. I have to get myself back on track. I drink every night to the point where I pass out. I make promises I don't keep and I am ashamed of the person I have let myself become. I have heard that you can not change what you don't acknowledge, so here I am and this is my problem. This is my addiction and it has to stop.

First, let me congratulate you on making a decision to change your life!  You are at the beginning of a wonderful journey.

I hope you will find an AA meeting near you -- you will find great support and fellowship there.  For those times when a meeting isn't possible, please join us in chat or our online meetings -- I look forward to getting to know you.

I've decided to stop the crazy rollercoaster my family and I are on.  I'm a 40 year old special ed teacher who has been abusing alcohol off and on for 9 years.  It's really time to quit.  I've become a poor example to my 3 teen children.  Are you still not drinking carol?
