Hi everyone. First time to this website. I got arrested this past Saturday for breaking a window out of a bar that I was at. I was flagged and got pissed off. I don't remember any of it.....spent the night in a holding cell and am being charged with numerous offenses. I feel like such a loser. I know I need to quit drinking but it just doesn't work out that way......I am a binge drinker. On the weekends and it's once I start, there's no stopping until I am completely out of my mind. I want to go to AA but am too embarassed. I don't know what to do. I just really hate myself right now. I've been drinking for about 25 years now and it's always been this way. I can go weeks without it but when I do......look out. Sorry for this being so long. I'm not sure what I'm doing....

Welcome! Sounds like you're definitely ready to make some changes. There is no need to be embarrassed about going to AA -- everyone there is there for the same reason you are -- to get and stay sober. And if you're worried that people will judge you because of your actions, trust me -- many of them have done the same or worse. You will find a lot of understanding, and hope, and you will learn to love yourself again. I hope you will start going to AA -- we are here for help and support as well! One day at a time.

it is my first time to this website and i just want to say go to an aa meeting, you will be absolutely amazed at the kindness you will get there. nobody judges anyone as we all go there for the same reason and thats to stop drinking as it has made our lives totally unmanageable, good luck

Hi. My name is John and I'm an alcoholic. No need to be embarrassed. If other people scare you, especially without the aid of a 'social lubricant' then there are ways around it. I too was embarassed and it was suggested that I find open speaker meetings (only the speakers have to talk), arrive 5 min late & leave 5 min early. It got me in the door. It must have worked 'cause I ended up joining a group and got sober. Go figure.
